The central theme of this Tradition is that it is better to do one thing really well than many badly. Around this theme we unite. The very life of our fellowship requires the preservation of this principle. In SAA our singleness of purpose uses this principle is to allow us to carry the message. This Tradition tells me that every activity of the group and the fellowship needs to be motivated by this singleness of purpose and no other purpose can be greater than this one. In support of this primary purpose there are many responsibilities which I can help with and which I see others do such as service work to support the group, keeping literature for the group, keeping an atmosphere of recovery in the group by using a consistent format, meeting etiquette and respectful sharing. When the group and fellowships keep to the primary purpose I can see that the focus stays on the SAA message. And that is what I need to hear when I come into the rooms. I know that I am a sex addict and I need to be reminded of that on a regular basis. I also need to hear the solution and I need to hear other people share. So hearing the SAA message is good for me. At the same I know that I cannot keep this gift of recovery unless I give it away. So this Tradition allows me to use the singleness of purpose to carry the message and give away some of what I have to help those that are still suffering. And because of this I work with others in the program and sponsor. So, Tradition Five is the life blood the fellowship. Without this Tradition I am not sure if I would be here. It is because of this Tradition that when I walked into the rooms of SAA I had people welcome me, share their stories with me, and that I got a sponsor. And because of this Tradition, I work with others and carry the message. This singleness of purpose keeps this fellowship alive and keeps me sober one day at a time. |

So this is my understanding of Step 5.
Anytime someone shares their EXPERIENCE, STRENGHTS, AND HOPE step 5 is being used. To hear others helps me to stay on my path. When I share I remind myself who I am and why I am sharing. I only hope that my shares help others. I want to keep what I have so I try and give back the best way I know how. For now that is answering the phone/returning phone calls to fellow brothers in need and sharing.
I hope the future bringsme to the world of sponsorship. Only my HP knows whats in store for me but I will KEEP COMING BACK...
